Newbarn Ltd Supported Accommodation

Newbarn Ltd. offers communal support, advice and accommodation for fifteen people who have difficulty managing on their own and have a mental health problem perhaps exacerbated by alcohol or drug abuse.

Help with budgeting, cooking, shopping, cleaning and other everyday tasks, as well as with keeping doctors' appointments, managing self-medication and ensuring good health and safety is provided.

Newbarn Ltd. is unique in that it provides a single separate house for each person or couple. Everyone has his / her / their own home for life. There are no rules and regulations. People are free to be, and to do, as they want in their own home.

Clients and staff are an interesting mix of people with an encyclopaedic knowledge and a wide range of experience, ability and hobbies, On any given evening, some might be at a karaoke, others at a movie, a couple at bingo, and the rest sharing a video and takeaway.

This mix, and the right to privacy in your own home, makes for a settled lifestyle. The houses are spread over a small area of Castleton, Rochdale, Lancashire and blend anonymously into the wider community. The local swimming pool, gym, weight watchers', cafes, restaurants and shops welcome the extra custom.

People are referred via their social worker, probation officer, community psychiatric nurse or similar professional.
